Where did Wall Street learn about the “gospel of greed?” Perhaps from the American Church.

Sow a seed. (Play the offering plate lottery.) God wants to bless you. He wants you to prosper.

By “prosper” do you mean “money?”

Why, of course. What else could prosperity mean. God wants to bless you. But first you must give some money to me.

That sounds like a pyramid scheme.

No, it’s just God’s economy. It is about sowing and reaping, you see? Sowing comes before reaping. You must give me some money. And someone else will give me some money. And you don’t have to worry whether of not you can afford to give right now. Give on faith. (You can leverage your gift.) It will all come back to you in the end, because God wants to bless you and God wants to bless America.

But didn’t Jesus say?

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.  Matthew 6:24

Yes, but He wasn’t talking about money, was He?. Money is O.K. Wasn’t He just talking about “greed?”
